Athar Khan,25, resident of Uttar Pradesh was arrested by Ponda police on Monday for raping a woman whom he promised to marry and decamped her with gold. The 35-year-old woman was living in Ponda for the last six months.
Ponda police inspector, Mohan Gaude said that the accused ran away to UP and by following the complaint by the victim, Ponda police persuaded Akhtar to come back to Goa. Ponda police arrested him right after on Monday evening.
The accused have been arrested under charges of rape and cheating her on the promisee of Nikah and stealing her gold, no ornaments have been recovered. The offence under Section 376, 420 and 380 have been registered against the accused.
