Uttar Pradesh: Piyush Goyal attacks rot in power sector; calls for white paper

After the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh took a series of decisions to enhance electricity supply in the state, the Union power minister Piyush Goyal said a white paper was needed to expose the “deep rot” of the past 15 years in the state’s power division.

“Some of the statistics which came out in last two weeks are mind-boggling and terrible. I cannot even share it with you… Some of the figures and statistics that have come out, have strengthened my feeling that we should come out with a white paper on state of affairs in UP so that the people know that deep rot that has been set into the system for the past 15 years,” Goyal said.

He also launched a scheme to check rural feeders and ‘Urja Mitra’ app for immediate tracking of blackouts.

In the mean time, a video of a conference surfaces where Goyal can be seen with UP power department officials and asking them to shape up or ship out. In the video, he can be clearly heard saying that the Centre will not cut any slack in enhancing power supply in the state. He also asked power sector officials to not to take any kind of bribes or else severest action will be taken against them.
