Veteran leader Digvijaya Singh removed as Telangana Congress in charge

Congress party on Tuesday has removed its senior leader, Digvijaya Singh from the post of in-charge of Telangana Congress. They appointed a new team in the state, declared All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretary, Janardhan Dwivedi.

The step was taken after Singh’s controversial statements against the Telangana police. He accused them of encouraging Muslim youth to join Islamic state fighters. He also took on Telangana’s IT minister, KT Rama Rao.

Earlier, he was sacked as an in-charge of poll-bound Karnataka and Goa after the party’s defeat in the later. Congress under the leadership of Singh had failed to form a government regardless of winning 17 out of the 40 seats in Goa. BJP won just 13 seats and retained the power.

Janardhan Dwivedi, secretary, AICC, issued a statement saying, “Digvijay Singh has been relieved of the responsibilities as the General Secretary AICC in-charge, Telangana. The Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved a new AICC team to look after the party affairs in Telangana”.

RC Khuntia has been appointed as the in-charge for Telangana, while Satish Jakroli has been made the Secretary.
