Both NDA’s vice-presidential candidate, Venkaiah Naidu and oppositions’ nominee for the post Gopalkrishna Gandhi have filed their nominations for the vice-presidential elections, on Tuesday. Of them, one will succeed Hamid Ansari and will also be the chairman of Rajya Sabha.
The election will be held on 5 August. The term of Vice President Hamid Ansari will end on 10 August. The last date for filing nomination papers for the Vice Presidential election was Tuesday.
While Naidu is a veteran parliamentarian who has a long association with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Opposition named Gandhi’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi as its choice for the vice-presidential post. The former Information and Broadcasting minister, Naidu has been finalised as the ruling NDA candidate on Monday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Parliamentary Board announced Naidu’s candidature after a meeting.
