E-buses introduced earlier this year by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) in an effort to curb down the air pollution caused by the diesel in its operation, seems to be an effort doing all waste.
A video is doing round on social media showing an e-bus of the PMPML getting charged using a generator — that runs on diesel.
As it can be seen in the clip, the logo printed on the e-bus clearly indicates that the bus is a part of PMPML. The bus was parked near the generator at an unidentified location. There were cables attached to the charging points of the vehicle, and the other end of the cables was attached to the generator, through which the batteries of the bus were being charged.

As quoted in a report by Pune Mirror, the PMPML drivers said that the power required for the charging of batteries of an e-bus burns more diesel than any diesel used by buses which run on this fuel.
“Diesel buses use less diesel compared to the consumption of a generator required to charge batteries of the electric buses,” one PMPML bus driver told Mirror, preferring to stay unnamed.
Seriously? @PMCPune
Using a diesel generator to charge e-bus?
Why on earth someone would do that?Polluting atmosphere to charge bus battery and then using electronic bus to save atmosphere?@PuneCityTraffic@ThePuneMirror@punedaily@AnilShiroleBJP@MlaJagdishMulik pic.twitter.com/FQwvYBze9x
