In a shocking incident, a school bis driver of Santacruz’s Podar Educational Complex was arrested for using a bamboo stick in place of a gear lever. He was caught after a businessman chased him as the accused rammed the bus into his car.

The incident came to light on Tuesday morning after the driver identified as Raj Kumar, rammed the bamboo-stick operated bus into a BMW car at Khar West. However, no students were injured in the mishap.

When two police officials arrived at the spot, the driver blamed the steering wheel of his bus for the accident. The car owner and the policemen then went inside the bus and found a bamboo stick in place of the gear lever.

Police questioned the owner of the bus on why a wooden stick was fixed in place of a gear lever, to which, the driver told that the bus gear knob had broken a few days ago and since then, he was using the bamboo stick as gear lever.

The incident was caught on camera, the video of which is going viral on social media inviting outrage from the concerned parents.

A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to rash driving on public way (279), causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (338) has been registered against him.

The school said it was conducting a complete audit of all school buses and will also carry out a thorough training of all transport contract drivers.
