E-commerce major Flipkart was recently acquired by Walmart as the US-based company has been on the lookout for effective ammunition to take on Amazon. It was said that the Flipkart plus Scheme will be a direct counter to Amazon Prime services. But the Amazon seems to be gaining grounds by setting about its business in the Indian online shopping segment, whereas Flipkart is due to launch Flipkart plus on August 15. The most evident difference between the two is, Flipkart has announced it with no charges, whereas the Amazon Prime costs Rs 129 per month and Rs 999 annually.

Flipkart plus contains no movies or a music catalogue. It is planning to have a partnership with Hotstar and Netflix. On the other hands, Amazon Prime has expanded itself with solid entertainment content on Prime Video and Prime Music. While there is no extra cost meted out with Flipkart Plus, the benefits entail the reward points system.

In an attempt to retain regular customers and turn the occasional customers into a regular ones Flipkart is offering ‘Plus Coins’ to its customers for each order. This is in an addition to the Flipkart plus members that can be used to receive discounts and cash back when the shop next time. Apart from these points benefits, the customers will also get regular stuff like fast delivery options, early access to some exclusive products and discounts on products as well.

Both Amazon Prime and Flipkart Plus Scheme looks appealing to one’s eyes. But it is too early to judge either of them as both have come up with completely different strategies. It is to see, does the Flipkart’s free of cost strategy work, as it generally works in the Indian market.
