What The Fart! Surat to host India’s 1st farting contest; loud, melodic sounds to win

Surat city in Gujarat is about to host India’s first ever farting competition ‘What The Fart’ in the state on September 22 to revive the whole discussion around fart and fart sounds. The participants will be judged on the volume, length and musicality of their bum coughs.

Organised at a local club in Surat, the events includes a registration fee of Rs 100. The participant who will produce the longest and most melodic fart will take home a trophy and rewards anywhere between Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000.

As quoted in several reports, the event was conceptualised by Surat residents Yatin Sangoi and Mul Sanghvi who aim to provide a platform to those who wants to pass gas freely. “30 years back, people used to fart freely. However, now it’s something of an inhibition and is frowned upon by society,” Yatin Sangoi said.

“About 25 days back I was watching movie with my family when I farted loudly and everyone laughed. That’s when I thought if there’s a competition, I could be a winner. However, there are none in India,” Sangoi told Hindustan Times. “I discussed with my friends and along with one of them decided to stage an event,” he added.

Sangoi’s mission to #FreeTheFart is quickly gaining clout, with more than 40 participants signing up and coming all the way from Jaipur, Hyderabad and Mumbai to fart-off.
