Shubhra Shetty: Shubhra Shetty and filmmaker Anurag Kashyap have been together for many years. The couple has mostly kept their personal life private. But in a recent conversation with Janice Sequeira, they spoke more openly about their relationship, their age difference and what they want for the future.
Shubhra is in her 30s while Kashyap is 53. The two have an age gap of around 20 years. Shubhra once worked as an assistant director at Phantom Films. The production company was co-founded by Kashyap. They were first seen together in public in 2015. Kashyap later made their relationship public in 2018.

How Shubhra and Anurag Started Dating
Shubhra said Kashyap was the first person to tell her about his feelings. He also did not want her to feel that she had to make a quick choice. According to her, he told her that he had enough life experience to understand what he was feeling, but she was free to take her own time.
She recalled that he encouraged her to live her life and make her own decisions. He wanted her to see the world and experience different things instead of feeling trapped by their relationship. She could go away and still return to him if that was what she wanted.
Their connection also grew because they shared many interests. Both liked books, movies and film festivals. The pair tried to keep their relationship away from public attention during the early years. Over time, however, people began to know about their romance.
The Couple Has Spoken About Their 20-Year Age Gap
Their age difference has often attracted attention. Kashyap said that he became more aware of the gap as he got older. Shubhra continued to look much younger which made him think about the difference even more.

He admitted that his own insecurity once made him try to pull away from the relationship. However, the two were able to move past that difficult period and stayed together.
Shubhra also spoke about the reaction from her family. She said she understood why her parents had concerns. She was in her 20s when the relationship began. Kashyap was already older and had been married twice before.
Speaking about his worries over the age difference, Kashyap said, “We’ve had our moments. We have been self-conscious. I’ve been more conscious.. And not just more conscious, at one point, I became so conscious, I was trying so hard to push it away. There was a point because her face doesn’t show her age. She still looks the same. She doesn’t look her age. So the thing is, the more I grew older and she kept looking the same, that’s when I became slightly conscious.”
Will Shubhra and Anurag Get Married?
Marriage has also been a topic of discussion for the couple. Kashyap said Shubhra does not believe in marriage. He has made it clear that he is comfortable with their relationship and is not interested in risking what they have together just because of social expectations.
When asked about their future, he told Janice Sequeira, “I’m very happy to be with her. I want to be with her. So, whatever that takes. There’s a lot in life. What is an old man’s insecurity? I want to be healthy enough to outlive the people I love. Because if it doesn’t happen, then what can happen after that? The ways of the world. So, I think about it a lot. But my thing is, as long as we have found what we have found now, I’m happy with anything. I don’t want to lose this.”
The couple now lives in Bengaluru after moving away from Mumbai.
