Two SSI payments in August: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits are usually paid on the first of each month. However, if the first falls on a weekend or public holiday, the payment is made on the previous business day. This is the case in September, as the first falls on a Sunday. As a result, beneficiaries will receive their payment from the Social Security Administration on Friday, August 30. Although the payment might arrive in some bank accounts before September, beneficiaries need to note that there won’t be another payment in September.

The SSA will announce the 2025 Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) in October. The COLA is designed to help maintain the purchasing power of benefits like SSI by adjusting for inflation. The adjustment is based on Consumer Price Index data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The SSA calculates the COLA by comparing the average index values for July, August, and September with the average from the previous year.
Currently, forecasts, such as those from the Senior Citizens League, suggest a lower COLA of around 2.57% based on July data. If this COLA is applied, SSI benefits would increase by about $17 a month, given that the average SSI payment was $695.84 in July.
