The Prime Minister Narendra Modi made many promises when he became the country’s Prime Minister for the first time in 2014 and from those promises one of them was to build 100 smart cities across the country. On the same claim, the BJP managed to form the government. Then again, the centre became the government. But the promise of making 100 smart cities just became a dream and let’s leave aside the hundred smart cities but how can one not talk about the Dholera city of Gujarat, which was going to be developed as a smart city and was going to turn into an air fort. On Thursday night, #DholeraSmartCity started trending on Twitter.
People started mocking the Modi government and with that the centre was yet again slammed for not fulfilling the ambitious promise of hundred smart cities.
The Dholera Special Investment Region is 40 kms away from Ahmedabad, and it was said that it will be developed as the first smart city in the country. A huge amount of Rs 2,486 crore was sanctioned by the central government in the year 2015.
But even after many years of the claim, the dreams of the smart city went into a locked cupboard, the work has not been done but it is sure the dust is on the project.
The Tweeples have managed to dig the old video of Narendra Modi’s speech as chief minister of Gujarat in which he made his dreamy promises about the city of Dholera in his dreams. Modiji is saying that Dholera city will be double in size from Delhi and 6 times larger than Shanghai.
What were the promises made for Dholera Smart City?
According to the old media report, it says that Dholera will be India’s first smart and futuristic city, which is being relocated near the developed city of the Indus Valley Civilization near Ahmedabad. The city will be inhabited in 920 sq km. It was also claimed that the city will be about one and a half times larger in size than Singapore. Only electric vehicles will run. Even one drop of water will not be wasted. Toilets, bathrooms and sewerage water will be reused. From here, the trade of sea and sky will take new wings.
Gujarat’s largest international cargo (cargo) airport is going to be constructed at PM Modi’s ambitious city of Dholera. The airport will soon be counted among the top three cargo airports in the country. The first flight from here is likely to fly by March 2023. The airport proposed in 1426 hectares will have two runways which can also handle large aircrafts like air bus 320. The construction of this city will be 51% of the cost of Gujarat government and 49% central government participation.
