Back in July, Nitish Kumar told the education department to quickly find out the teacher vacancies so that TRE-4 could be held. He also wanted 35% seats kept aside for local women in this exam. The plan was to finish the process before the election code of conduct starts, which is expected by end of September or early October, reported Hindustan Times.

Bihar Education Department Important update

The Bihar Education Department has given an important update about teacher jobs. The Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE 4) will be held from December 16 to 19, 2025, and results are expected between January 20 and 24, 2026. This exam will open the way for many new teacher appointments in schools across the state.

Before that, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) will organize the Bihar STET 2025 exam from October 4 to 25, as per reports. The online application form for STET 2025 is likely to come out on September 8. Eligible candidates can fill it on the official website.

The government has agreed to the long-time demand of teacher aspirants and decided to hold STET before TRE 4. Education Minister Sunil Kumar also confirmed that STET will take place in October and will not be delayed further, reported India Today.

Students already held protests and marches in Patna in the past and even opposition leaders stood with them.

What is STET?

The STET, or Secondary Teachers’ Eligibility Test, is the main exam that anyone must pass if they want to become a teacher in secondary and higher secondary schools. The National Council for Teacher Education made it compulsory in July 2011. Without STET, no one can be eligible for these posts.

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) conducts STET. Till now, Bihar has held STET only three times in 2011, in 2019/2020, and again in 2023. The government promised that from 2024, STET will happen twice every year, but that plan has not worked till now.

STET Exam pattern

STET has two papers. Paper 1 is for teachers of classes 9 and 10, and Paper 2 is for teachers of classes 11 and 12. The exam usually has multiple-choice questions. It tests general knowledge, reasoning, and also subject knowledge like Hindi, English, Math, Science, Social Science and other subjects depending on the applicant’s choice. Candidates need to score at least 50% to pass, but for reserved categories the pass percentage is a bit lower.

Who can take Bihar STET?

First, you must be an Indian citizen and preferably resident of Bihar. This helps especially if you belong to reserved categories and claim any concessions.

Age Requirements

You’ll typically need to be at least 21 years old to apply. The maximum age allowed depends on your category:

  • General (Male): up to 37 years
  • General (Female) / OBC/EBC: up to 40 years
  • SC/ST: up to 42 years

There are additional relaxations for Persons with Disabilities (PwBD), Ex-Servicemen, and others.
