PM Modi speaks ahead of Winter Session:

“This session is important, many issues of public importance will be taken up. I have faith that all the members of the Parliament will respect this sentiment and move ahead. Our efforts are that discussions are held on all issues.”


Winter session of Parliament is set to begin today, there are 45 bills listed for this session. Important bills like Triple Talaq Bill will be among the topmost priority as it was promulgated as an ordinance in September.

United Opposition held a meeting ahead of this session to chalk out the strategy against the PM Modi led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. The meeting was attended by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Nationalist Congress Party Chief Sharad Pawar, Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee, Telugu Desam Party Chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Janata Dal-Secular head HD Deve Gowda, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejaswi Yadav, Sharad Yadav, Sitaram Yechury and others.

A month-long winter session will continue till January 8, 2019. Parliamentary affairs Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that 45 Bills and one Financial item will be taken up during this session of Parliament.

The opening session is likely to be very exciting as the five state assembly results are also coming today. It is considered as a semifinal before 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Session will have 20 sittings. On the first day, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will be adjourned for the day after paying tributes to its sitting and former members who passed away after the Monsoon Session. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, MPs from Bihar Bhola Singh and Maulana Asrarul Haq and M.I.Shahnavas from Kerala is some of the leaders who passed away during the intervening period.

Here are lists of bills likely taken up during this session:

1.       The representation of the People (Amendment) Bill, 2017

2.       The Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes Bill, 2018

3.       The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017

4.       The Motor Vehicles (Amendment)  Bill, 2017

Bills likely to be introduced:

1.       The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018

2.       Women’s Reservation Bill

3.       The Companies (Amendment) Bill

There are another 20 new bills which are listed for an introduction, consideration, and passage. Two bills are also listed for withdrawal in this session.
