The second wave of the novel coronavirus has yet again restricted our outdoors. With state authorities implementing lockdowns and Janta curfews, several mythological shows like Ramayan and Mahabharata have returned to our television screens.

Doordarshan (DD) decided to bring Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, which first aired in 1987, on TV. The mythological show re-aired on the small screen after 33 years. And it got an equal amount of love from the viewers, 33 years down the line. On April 16, 2020, Ramayan became the most-watched entertainment in the world with 7.7 crore viewers.

This year, the 1987 classic will air on Star Bharat every day at 7 pm.

DD National had put a tweet that read, “Rebroadcast of Ramayana on Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most-watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April.”

Reacting to the news, Ramayan’s Sita aka Dipika Chikhlia Topiwala took to social media and dropped a post captioned as, “So excited to share that Ramayan will be airing on the small screens again this year! Ramayan aired during the lockdown last year, and looks like history is repeating itself. The show has been a huge part of not just my life, but thousands of Indian families for years. Come be a part of our community and share the knowledge of the Ramayan with generations to come. Tune in to Star Bharat everyday at 7pm to watch Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayan’.”
