Chhattisgarh Woman Cancels Wedding: A wedding in Kosmanda village in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district turned into a big shock on the night of June 23. Muskan Pradhan, who is 22 years old, was ready for her marriage when the groom’s wedding party came from Khokhra village.
But the moment people saw the groom was heavily drunk, the happy mood broke fast. Muskan then refused to marry him, and her family stood with her. The situation became tense after that and there were arguments and a scuffle at the venue. Police and local people later stepped in and helped cool things down.

What Happened at The Wedding?
According to the report, the marriage was set between Muskan Pradhan of Kosmanda village and Sant Ram, 24, of Khokhra village. The wedding procession reached Kosmanda at around 4 pm and the ceremony started soon after. The groom was said to be so drunk that he could not stand properly. After hearing this, Muskan stopped the wedding right there. Police said she had also warned him earlier, because he had come drunk during the engagement too and had promised to stop drinking.

Tension grew between both families and the wedding guests. When the matter got worse, Champa police station SHO Ashok Vaishnav and his team arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.
During the clash, some young men from both sides fought and a few people got minor injuries. They were taken to a hospital. Family members later said the groom’s side agreed to pay around Rs 3 lakh to cover wedding expenses. Muskan, who studied up to Class 10, said she wants to study more.

Muskan’s Strong Stand

Muskan’s decision got a lot of praise in the village and nearby places. She was also honoured by Janjgir-Champa SP Vijay Kumar Pandey at his office on Thursday. Social workers and women representatives were also present there. The police said the case sends a strong message against alcohol abuse and against careless behavior in marriage. Many local people said her stand was brave and good for other families to see.
Muskan herself explained why she refused to go ahead with the wedding. “I learned that the groom was drunk. I felt uneasy and decided not to marry. My family also welcomed the decision. After that, I sent the groom and the wedding procession back,” said Muskan. That one decision turned the whole night upside down, but it also made many people respect her even more.
