On Monday, Uttar Pradesh CM, Yogi Adityanath, allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate into the Gomti River Channelisation Project scam.

The process of sending the letter of recommendation to the Ministry will also be completed soon.

In this probe, many names are expected to come up.

On April 1, Adityanath had ordered a probe into former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s project ‘Gomti Riverfront Development’.

In 2014-15, an amount of Rs. 656 crore was allocated for the Gomti River Channelisation project but it crossed the limit to Rs. 1,531 crore.

Despite the huge amount of expenditure for the project, only 60% of the work has been completed.

The Chief Minister asked for an investigation after visiting the project plant.

He submitted a report in front of the enquiry committee, headed by Urban Development Minister, Suresh Khanna, to determine an action against the convicts.

The committee submitted its report to the Chief Minister and recommended a CBI probe into the case.

Adityanath also sought an explanation from the officers about the utilisation of funds allocated to the project. He also directed the secretaries of all departments to check unnecessary expenditure.
