Zoya Akhtar admits to scripting Gully Boy's sequel

If there is one film that opened the doors of a completely new genre of music to India, then one name comes to mind and it is Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer, Gully Boy.

Gully Boy was the story of Murad who grew up in the slums of Dharavi and had the dream of becoming a rapper. How he overcame his obstacles to reach the zenith of success was the story of the film. Ranveer Singh in the role of Murad left everyone surprised and Alia Bhatt as Safeena managed to leave a lasting impression on audiences.

Everyone wanted to see more of Murad and Safeena and hence, wanted a sequel to Gully Boy. In a recent interview, director Zoya Akhtar confirmed the same and mentioned that the film’s second part is being scripted. Zoya mentioned that Gully Boy tackled a completely unique genre of music and has many stories to tell. Hence, the writer, Reema Kagti and she were planning a sequel to the film.

Zoya said, “My co-writer Reema Kagti and I do feel there’s so much more to be said on the entire hip-hop culture in our country. And another film exploring the theme is being scripted and planned.”
