Cobra Bites: In a very shocking and strange incident, a one-year-old boy in Bettiah district of Bihar bit a cobra after thinking it was a toy. The child, whose name is Govinda, was playing inside his house on a Friday afternoon when a cobra, around two feet long, came inside. Without knowing any danger, the boy picked it up and bit the snake, tearing it into two parts. The snake died from the bite, but the boy fainted soon after. His family quickly rushed him to the hospital.

After the incident happened, Govinda’s family took him first to the nearby Majhauliya PHC hospital. Later, doctors referred him to the Bettiah Government Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.

Accordign to Mint, Dr Devikant Mishra, who is the Deputy Superintendent at the hospital, told Live Hindustan, “The child has not shown any signs of venom infection and is still undergoing treatment.” He also said that the child is out of danger now, which gave some relief to the family and everyone in the area.

Some people in the village think that the snake came very close to the child while it was crawling on the floor. That might be why Govinda thought it was something to play with. A report by India Today mentioned that locals believe the child did this without knowing anything and just reacted on instinct. They called it a reflexive act. The fact that such a small child could actually bite and kill a dangerous snake surprised and scared many in the village.

Snakes moving more

Wildlife experts are saying that recent heavy rain and too much construction work in cities and villages are pushing snakes out of their homes in the wild. That’s probably why more snakes are being seen around houses. In Gurugram, about 85 snakes were rescued in just one month during the monsoon season.

In another very sad case, two young sisters from Pawat village in Ludhiana died after a snake bit them while they were sleeping on the roof. It happened so fast that they didn’t even get a chance to get help, and both died within minutes.
