The 10-year-old girl who was raped and impregnated by her stepfather successfully underwent an abortion and is doing better now. She was discharged from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak on Monday.
The minor has been rehabilitated to a Child Care Institution (CCI) in Bahadurgarh by the district child welfare committee (CWC). CWC took the decision to not hand her over to her mother.
“The victim’s mother is more concerned of her rapist husband who impregnated her daughter than showing any interest in taking care of her. She is continuously asking for his release from jail. In such a scenario, we did not find it appropriate to hand over the victim to her mother considering her future,” said Dr Raj Singh Sangwan, chairman of the CWC said, reported HT.
CWC has also asked a social background report of the victim’s mother. It suspects that the woman might be lying of her first husband’s death. As there were no CCI available for normal children in Rohtak, the victim had to be directed to neighbouring Bahadurgarh.
“The CCI has been issued special instructions to take care of her diet and safety. A legal advisor has been appointed for the victim, through which maximum compensation will be sought for her from the state,” said Dr Sangwan.
The case had come to light after the police had taken cognisance of an anonymous complaint. After the victim was taken to the hospital, the doctors found her about five-month pregnant. After some legal proceeding, the court order to abort the baby.
