1984 anti-Sikh Riots convict, Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, submitted his resignation from the party membership to the Congress President, Rahul Gandhi.

In a letter to the party chief, Sajjan Kumar wrote, “I tender my resignation with immediate effect from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress in the wake of the judgement of the honourable high court of Delhi against me.”

On Monday, December 17, the Delhi High Court had sentenced him to life imprisonment for his role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The convicts had challenged their sentence by the trial court in 2013.

After the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, 3000+ people were killed by mobs.

Ironical that Sajjan verdict came as Kamal Nath took oath: Jaitley
