29th Kolkata International Film Festival: On December 5, this year’s Kolkata International Film Festival will commence. Since it is the centenary of Mrinal Sen’s birth, the 29th edition of the week-long film festival will pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker on his centenary. Not only will it honour Mrinal Sen, but it will also honour Dev Anand. The first conference regarding the film festival was held in the second week of June, and the next meeting will be held in the first week of July under the leadership of Raj Chakraborty.

The KIFF website is now accepting film submissions for this year; the deadline is August 31. The event’s organisers intend to make it as magnificent as it was before COVID-19 struck. Thus, the objective is to restore the prestige. In addition to domestic guests and delegates, invitations will be sent to guests from all over the globe.

The Kolkata International Film Festival was conducted between December 15 and December 22 of the previous year. ‘Abhimaan’ (1973), an iconic film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and starring Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, inaugurated the festival last year. In the previous edition, 183 films from 42 countries, including 52 short films and documentaries, were screened. At the inaugural ceremony were Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Ranu Mukerji, Mahesh Bhatt, and several other notable figures.

A celebration of Amitabh Bachchan’s life and achievements was one of the primary attractions. The 28th KIFF paid special tribute to the legendary filmmaker Tarun Majumdar, veteran actor Pradip Mukherjee, classical musician Shivkumar Sharma, and American actor Angela Lansbury, who all passed away in 2022.
