How was the US economy harmed by the COVID-19 pandemic?
The U.S. economy was negatively influenced by COVID-19, or more accurately, by the government’s overzealous actions, which resulted in widespread business closures, enormous job losses, and surges in unemployment.
There were problems with the supply chain, people spent less, and the GDP dropped sharply by 3.4%. This was the biggest drop since the Great Depression hit Wall Street in 1929.
Also, by April 2020, the jobless rate had risen to 14.8%, 22 million people had lost their jobs, and 200,000 businesses had said they would shut down for good by 2021.
Lockdowns by the government hurt the travel, hotel, and retail businesses a lot. The debt went through the roof and now stands at $28 trillion. Of this amount, $5 trillion came from actions meant to keep the economy going.
