Five men including a tourist guide will be booked for allegedly gang-raping an American woman at a five-star hotel in Delhi in March this year. The decision to register an FIR was taken after the police went through a complaint filed on behalf of the woman.

The police have already recognized the tourist guide who was named as the key accused in the case. “The prime suspect is a resident of Delhi but he is presently out of Delhi,” said the officer.

Notably, this is the second case of a foreign tourist being sexually assaulted in Delhi in recent times. Earlier, the court sentenced to life five men who found guilty of gang-raping a Danish woman near railway station in 2014.

The incident draws negative hype for the national capital that is already seen as one of the most unsafe places for women in the nation.

The American woman has expressed her readiness to travel to Delhi to record the statement. The woman has said the tourist guide befriended her while showing places in Delhi and adjacent area. And on the night of the incident, he entered her room with four of his friends with an excuse to discuss their next day plan.

They then had drinks in the room following which the tourist guide forced himself on her. The others also took turns to rape her before leaving her room. As per the complaint the traumatized woman returned to the US soon after the alleged gang-rape.

“We will approach the US embassy to assist us in contacting her. We will record her statement before a magistrate if she agrees to come to Delhi. If she is unable to visit us, her statement can be recorded through video conferencing as well,” said an officer.

However, the officer said they were eager to know why the woman did not approach the hotel employees or the police before leaving the country. The police checked the records of the hotel and established her stay for four days.

Currently, the investigation is continues in the case.
