Petta box office collection Day 3: Rajnikanth's movie rocks worldwide, nears Rs 50 crore

Petta, directed and written Karthik Subbaraj, also feature superstar Vijay Sethupathi along with the Bollywood fame, Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The movie was released on Thursday. The movie has also been released internationally, taken to theatres of Kuwait, Denmark and France.

The movie has received mixed reviews and currently has a decent rating of 8.3 at the movie database keeper, IMDB.

The story revolves around a hostel warden named Kaali (Rajinikanth) who comes to set things right. After being introduced without much hullabaloo in his last three films, Subbaraj gives us a bang for a buck Rajinikanth introduction scene.

Petta is speeding towards the Rs 50-crore-mark and looks like it will achieve it within another day. According to Mumbai-based trade analyst Girish Johar, the film has grossed Rs 48 crore worldwide and collected Rs 23 crore in Tamil Nadu. Trade analyst Girish Johar from Mumbai tweeted, “GOOD TIMES FOR SOUTH BO !!!! Both the Pongal Release ROCK !!!! As per trends Day 1 Aprox Estimates #Petta Worldwide – 48Cr & #TamilNadu – 23Cr #Viswasam Worldwide – 43Crs & #TamilNadu – 26Crs @rajinikanth #ThalaAjith.”

Looking at the box office figures, Petta has failed to beat Viswasam’s collection in the state. However, it is holding strong and has taken a lead in the US market by a huge margin.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala displayed the collection of Petta and Viswasam by his tweet, “#Chennai City 2-Days #Pongal2019 BO: #Petta leads #Viswasam ; #Petta – ₹ 2.20 Crs ; #Viswasam – ₹ 1.74 Crs.”

‘Petta’ has been leading in Tamil Nadu in Urban areas and multiplexes while ‘Viswasam’ is ahead in semi-urban and rural areas. Both Viswasam and Petta will face neck-to-neck competition at the box office as they enter the Pongal holiday week.
