In view of the rising cases of coronavirus (Covid-19), DTC buses and Delhi Metro in the national capital will run with limited capacity for at least two more weeks. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Monday decided to maintain the status quo of the number of passengers.
“Delhi Metro trains and public buses will run at previously fixed limited capacities for now. It is a vigilant wait and watch for another two weeks,” they said.
Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Monday chaired a DDMA meeting which was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev and other officials.
In Delhi, 145 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported on Sunday and 2 fatalities were observed. The new fatalities pushed the death toll from the pandemic to 10,900 in the national capital. The COVID-19 positivity rate in Delhi on Saturday was 0.24 per cent.
Cluster-based genome sequence testing for Covid-19 in Delhi
The administration is also thinking of adopting cluster-based genome sequence testing and surveillance strategy to prevent any fresh outbreak of coronavirus cases in the capital.
Elaborating on this, a senior government official said, “Apart from the mutant variants from UK, South Africa and Brazil, the newly identified local mutants that are reportedly highly contagious and virulent, was a major cause of concern for public health experts during the meeting. To handle them (mutations), the Delhi government will resort to cluster-based sequence testing.”
