Payday It Forward 2024: Payday it Forward is celebrated annually on March 29. This day is celebrated globally as an occasion to be kind to young black men, to support them, and to respect them as human beings. Payday it Forward is a day created in response to the increasing concern among communities regarding the unfair targeting of young black men and boys. The purpose of this day is to combat prejudice and counteract the demeaning effects of being treated criminally by requesting that individuals go out of their way to be kind to young black boys and men and treat them with dignity and respect.

THE BACKGROUND OF PAYDAY IT FORWARD

Payday It Forward is observed globally, but especially in the United States, where prejudice against young black boys and men has left them feeling demoralised and despondent. PayDay it Forward is named after a young black child who was killed by police in an unjustifiable act of police aggression. Paylor James Daniels, dubbed “PayDay” by his peers, had just turned 18 years old at the time of his murder. And in his memory, his mother, Paula Long, designated this day for all young black males and adolescents.

Three men were charged with first-degree manslaughter for the murder of PayDay, but while justice has been served, hundreds of young black boys, adolescents, and men continue to be the targets of racial violence. Paula Long established the PayDay Foundation and the PayDay It Forward day to encourage people to get to know the young black men and boys in their communities and to offer them support. Long requests that people stop ignoring teenage black males and look beyond their hoodies.

She asks adults to try to comprehend that, like other people, black adolescents have clothing preferences and walk a certain way because they believe it’s cool, and not because they’re trying to be aggressive. This day is also an opportunity for people to check in on their neighbourhood children and offer assistance if they are experiencing difficulties. Long encourages people to overcome their preconceived notions in order to see young black males for who they truly are.
