Black Butler Season 5 Episode 11 Recap
Episode 11, “His Butler, Much Unknown,” episode focuses more on his character, exploring Wolfram Gelzer’s tragic past and establishing him as a backstory heavy-hitter. Through flashbacks, we learn how Wolfram’s grey, duty-driven worldview was opened up by young Sieglinde Sullivan, whose innocence and artistic spirit helped him discover all the beautiful shades of the rainbow—and provided an emotional motive for him to really protect someone. The Phantomhive servants meet up at a railroad depot, fixing and re-launching a train to further their flight. Tension rises when Grim Reapers Ludger and Sascha observe Ciel and Sebastian and conclude that Ciel’s Faustian contract allows him to see them.
Back at the train, Wolfram breaks in and, gun raised, takes a shot but grazes Grete while trying to get to Sieglinde. Soon after, he’s subdued by Hilde and barely rescued by Sebastian. Soon after, a life-saving surgery, during which Ciel coaxes Sieglinde back to her purpose, and Wolfram discovers hope both in Ciel’s order and in Sieglinde’s tears. Stored in the climax of the episode is Ciel’s announcement that he does not trust anybody, not even Wolfram, thus making Sieglinde his only protection.
