Prajwal Revanna Sentenced to Life Imprisonment: On August 2, 2025 a special court in Bengaluru threw the book at ex-JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna sentencing him to life imprisonment. All because of what he did to a 47-year-old domestic worker. The judge didn’t stop at just the jail time, either. There’s a huge fine involved too ₹11.5 lakh in total. And nearly all of that ₹11.25 lakh is going straight to the survivor, as it should. Revanna’s political pedigree made this one of Karnataka’s most closely watched legal outcomes.
Conviction Details
The conviction stemmed from one of four pending cases against Revanna. Four separate cases have been registered against Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual harassment, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the cases against him. The cases came to light when pen-drives containing explicit videos allegedly involving Prajwal Revanna were reportedly circulated in Hassan, ahead of Lok Sabha polls there on April 26, 2024.
He was convicted under multiple sections of the IPC including sections 376(2)(k) and 376(2)(n) and also faced charges under offences relating to sexual harassment, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and privacy violation under the IT Act.
During the hearing, a tearful Revanna expressed regret, tearfully stating, “The only mistake I made was growing too fast in politics.” Reports indicate he broke down emotionally in court. The defense had argued political motivation behind the case, but the court found the prosecution’s evidence compelling.
Former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna convicted in a sexual abuse and rape case
Assigned Prisoner #15528
On August 3, Revanna was assigned prisoner number 15528 at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, where he is now housed in a high-security cell. A medical check-up was conducted, during which he reportedly expressed his intent to challenge the conviction in the High Court. Standard prisoner protocols, including uniforms and restricted movement, are now in effect.
Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, once represented the Hassan constituency in the Lok Sabha. His meteoric rise in politics came crashing down with this conviction. Activists have called for accountability not just of the accused but also of those who illegally circulated incriminating videos calling it a grievous assault on dignity and privacy.
Special Public Prosecutor Reports
According to Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Nayak, the prosecution relied on digital evidence, including videos recorded by the accused, DNA reports, and material recovered years after the alleged incidents. “The clothes worn by the victim during the rape were also identified and seized after three-four years,” he said, crediting the Investigation Officer for preserving critical forensic evidence.
Revanna was arrested on May 31 last year after landing in Bengaluru from Germany. The allegations first came to light in April 2024, just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, when pen drives containing explicit videos allegedly featuring him were circulated in Hassan. He later failed to retain his Hassan constituency seat in the polls. Following the emergence of these cases, the JD(S) suspended him from the party.
The court’s ruling handed down by the Special Court for elected representatives sends a strong message: no public status exempts one from accountability. With three more cases against him still pending, the verdict also buttresses India’s commitment to justice for survivors of sexual violence. Activists argue that those involved in distributing salacious or non-consensual content must also face legal consequences.
Revanna went from attending in fancy political circles to staring at prison walls for life. This whole case got people buzzing not every day you see someone with that much clout actually land a life sentence. People are watching closely now, hoping the courts keep their backbone and don’t let some backroom handshake undo everything.
