The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a public interest litigation filed by an advocate challenging the Maharashtra government’s decision to issue Kunbi caste certificates to Maratha community members for reservation purposes.
The court emphasized that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party in the matter.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, noted that individuals from the OBC category, who are directly affected, have already submitted petitions.
These will be reviewed by another bench on September 22.
Asserting the significance of addressing aggrieved parties, the court stated that the proliferation of PILs should be curtailed to ensure the justice system effectively addresses genuine grievances. The PIL in question, filed by advocate Vinit Vinod Dhotre, was deemed unwarranted and was subsequently dismissed.
