Telangana: Gruha Jyothi Scheme to continue, says Dy CM

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Saturday asserted that the state government is committed to ensuring a life of dignity and self-respect for poor and marginalized sections, stating that the Gruha Jyothi free electricity scheme will continue.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the state government has so far spent ₹3,593 crore on the scheme since the Praja government came to power.

Replying to questions raised by members in the Assembly, Bhatti said the scheme provides free electricity up to 200 units to eligible households and is being implemented across the state without discrimination based on political affiliation or community.

He informed the House that new applicants, as well as existing beneficiaries seeking corrections or additions, can approach Praja Palana officials at MPDO offices to submit applications or update details.

Bhatti said the scheme was launched immediately after the Congress government assumed power, fulfilling a key pre-election promise made to the people.

Providing data, he said 25,35,560 beneficiaries fall under the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (SPDCL) and 27,46,938 under the Northern Power Distribution Company of Telangana (NPDCL).

Out of 1.15 crore households in the state, 52,82,498 families are currently availing of free electricity under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, he said.
