Tomorrow School Holiday (8 July): Heavy monsoon rain along with weather alerts in different parts of India has left students and parents waiting for clarity about whether schools will stay closed on Wednesday, July 8. In many places, multiple districts did announce a holiday on July 7 mainly because of intense rainfall, waterlogging and general safety concerns.
But as of now there is no nationwide school closure announced specifically for July 8. So the final call is being handled by district administrations and municipal authorities, depending on the local conditions and the advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Tomorrow School Holiday (8 July): Maharashtra
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state as the southwest monsoon remains active. Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Pune and parts of the Nashik region witnessed heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past two days, prompting authorities to suspend classes on July 7 as a precaution. Public transport was also affected in several areas due to waterlogging and reduced visibility.
“A ‘Red’ alert has been issued in view of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and the possibility of high tides. We are sending weather-related alerts to citizens every half hour and urging them not to step out of their homes. All BMC schools are closed today, July 7, 2026.”

For July 8, however, authorities have not yet issued a statewide school closure order. Officials have said that any decision to extend holidays will depend on overnight weather conditions, IMD forecasts and the local situation.
Mumbai School Holiday Tomorrow
In Mumbai, schools and colleges remained shut on July 7 after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) acted on IMD warnings of heavy rainfall. According to ANI, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools in the city remained closed on Tuesday, July 7, due to continuous heavy rainfall. Although rain activity is expected to continue, there is no official confirmation yet that schools will remain closed on July 8.
Thane, Pune, Raigad and Palghar
Districts including Thane, Pune, Raigad and Palghar also suspended classes earlier because of heavy rainfall and flood-like conditions in several localities. Pune Municipal Corporation has declared holiday in 101 schools till Sunday to accommodate flood-affected Warkaris from Alandi and Dehu. Officials have indicated that any extension of the holiday will depend on local weather assessments and IMD alerts.

Delhi-NCR and Other States
The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across large parts of north, central and western India, including Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. However, no general school closure has been announced in these regions for July 8. Any holiday decision will be taken by local administrations if weather conditions worsen.
IMD Warning
According to the IMD, active monsoon conditions are likely to persist over several states, with isolated areas expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. The weather agency has advised people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert for waterlogging, flash floods, landslides and traffic disruptions. Authorities have also asked citizens to avoid rumours and depend only on official weather bulletins and government announcements.
Parents and students should regularly check updates from their respective district administrations and the India Meteorological Department before leaving for school on Wednesday morning.
