Nifty Muhurat Trading 2026: The Nifty 50 has mostly seen gains during Diwali’s special Muhurat Trading sessions over the last 10 years. Between 2016 and 2025, the index ended in the green in eight sessions out of 10. But the rise wasn’t very big and stayed below 1% every year.
The highest gain during these years came in 2022, when the Nifty went up by around 0.87%. The index also ended lower in 2016 and 2017. So, while the market has mostly done well during these special sessions, it hasn’t seen any major jumps in recent years.

Muhurat Trading’s Biggest Market Gain Came in 2008
The Nifty hasn’t seen very big gains during recent Diwali trading sessions. But things were quite different in 2008. On October 28 that year, the Nifty 50 jumped by 6.35% during Muhurat Trading. The Sensex also saw a rise of nearly 6%.
This big jump came at a time when the global financial crisis was affecting stock markets across the world. The rise became one of the biggest gains ever recorded during a Muhurat Trading session.
