The Former Rajouri Garden MLA Jarnail Singh sparked a controversy on social media as he posted blasphemous post disrespecting Hindu Gods on Facebook.

However, Singh claimed the post was accidentally made by his younger son w ho was handling his phone during an online class.

The former MLA was suspended by the AAP and decision to suspend him was taken during the meeting of the AAP’s PAC.

“The Sikh community is also very sad with their statement because such misfortune against any community is also against the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Aam Aadmi Party is a secular party and has no place in the party of anyone who disrespects any religion,” the party said in its statement.

Singh, a former journalist, unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections on an AAP ticket. In 2015, he was elected an MLA from the Rajouri Garden seat. Later, he was made to vacate the seat so that he could contest the 2017 Punjab assembly polls against veteran SAD leader Parkash Singh Badal.

Singh lost to Badal and since then he has distanced himself from the Arvind Kejriwal-led party.

He had also slammed the AAP for holding talks with the Congress ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Singh first came into limelight for throwing shoes at then Cabinet Minister P Chidambaram during a press conference in 2009 over the grand old party’s role in the 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom.

A blasphemous post on Prophet Muhammad shared on social media allegedly by a Congress legislator’s relative led to widespread violence in Bengaluru. More than 145 people have been arrested while over 60 cops including the DSP received injuries.
