In a significant verdict, the Allahabad High Court has acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar on Thursday in Aarushi – Hemraj murder case.  They were accused killing their daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj in 2008. The married couple was given life sentence by a special CBI court in Ghaziabad in November 2013. They had later appealed in HC against the decision.

The Talwars had challenged the court’s order by filing a plea in the Allahabad High Court. A division bench of the high court comprising justices BK Narayana and AK Mishra had reserved its judgement on September 7 on the appeal filed by the Talwars, fixing October 12 as the date for the verdict.

The Uttar Pradesh police had first arrested Rajesh Talwar on 23 May 2008 after which he was lodged at Dasna jail and let off on July 11, 2008. Later on April 30, 2012, his wife Nupur surrendered before a Ghaziabad court before trial and was also sent to Dasna jail.
