Acid attack survivor who worked with Deepika in Chappak, pleads for her father’s cancer treatment

Jeetu Sharma's 55-year-old father Somdat Sharma is a constable and currently posted at  Mainpuri district in the western part of the state. The hospitals have refused to treat him due to ongoing corona crisis. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in January and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Noida.

Coronavirus cases are increasing every day and the panic is also increasing in hospitals. Due to corona, people suffering from other chronic diseases are hardly attended. Jeetu Sharma, an acid attack survivor who also worked with the Bollywood actress, Deepika Padukone is struggling to get her father treated due to the lockdown. According to the reports, Jeetu lives in Aligarh’s Baraula Jafrabad and her father is suffering from throat cancer.

The hospitals have refused to treat him due to ongoing corona crisis. He was diagnosed with throat cancer in January and was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Noida.

Jeetu is now coming forward and struggling to save her father from death.

According to the family, her father’s last chemo session was done on March 19 and the following one was due on March 26. “But then the lockdown was announced which was further extended later”, she said.

Jeetu added, “I contacted the district administration and police but received no help. They advised me to hire a taxi and go to Noida on my own”.

She had also posted her plight on the social media tagging UP CM Yogi Adityanath and Aligarh DM.

Meanwhile, in response to Jeetu Sharma’s Twitter post, Chandra Bhushan Singh, the District Magistrate of UP’s Aligarh, posted, “The daughter of a cancer patient has been informed to apply to Aligarh city magistrate. She will be permitted to take her father to another city for treatment”.

The UP government has also said that there is an e-pass system for those forced to travel during lockdown because of medical emergencies.

In 2014, Jeetu was attacked by a 55-year-old man who was stalking her. She was only 17-year-old. Later, she was cast in Meghna Gulzar’s Chappak for a small role.
