The government is probing the likelihood of setting up a mechanism to test food supplements to give support to the athletes, said the Union minister for Sports Vijay Goel. The minister also emphasised the need for a scientific approach to diet and nutrition for athletes.
The sports minister has asked all the stakeholders to adopt a “zero tolerance” policy towards doping, in a release issued on Wednesday.
He had also asked the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) to organise a seminar to shape a strategy to tackle the issue in a proper manner. Goel said to check if doping could be treated as a criminal offence.
He also demanded to educate the young athletes in schools and colleges about the ill-effects of doping through regular seminars and information campaign.
