After a long wait, ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ finally gets a release date

Award winning yet controversy-ridden ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ finally gets a release date in India. The film, directed by Alankrita Shrivastava and starring Konkona Sen Sharma among others, will finally release on 28 July.

Earlier, the film had been denied certification by the CBFC. The Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT) told the Censor Board to grant an ‘A’ certificate to the film. The CBFC refused to certify the film, saying it was ‘lady oriented’ among other reasons.

The film won accolades and praise from across the world.

“The story is lady oriented their fantasy above life. There are contanious sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society, hence film refused under guidelines 1(a), 2(vii), 2(ix), 2(x), 2(xi), 2(xii) and 3(i). (sic),” Central Board of Film Certification had said.
