After Bihar, it is Uttar Pradesh. Another incident of abuse and harassment against minors in government shelter home registered in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria. 24 girls from the shelter home in Deoria have been rescued. The victims narrated the atrocities they were going through in the shelter home. UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has taken immediate action against it and has ordered the removal of  Deoria’s DM Sujit Kumar. The CM has also sent a two-member high level committee to Deoria for the investigation. They will stay there today and submit a report, following which action will be taken, said UP Women & Child Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

An FIR was lodged on August 01, to shut the shelter home immediately as illegal acts were being carried on in that NGO. The number of children enrolled at centre as per records are not present. 1 child was rescued yesterday who has filed a complaint and the investigation is underway. After CBI inspection last year, it was established that Deoria shelter home centre was running illegally. A direction was issued to shift the inmates and shut it. But this order was not followed, said Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development in the Government, Maneka Gandhi has also reacted on the incident and said, “I propose that MPs go to institutions in their constituencies & give me reports. I’ll take immediate action. A long term solution is to make large homes for 1000 women, 1000 children, with all-women staff rather than small centres. I’ll sanction money, but not even a single complaint was made from the MPs. Either they did shallow examinations or they did not go at all to the shelter homes.”

It’s not only frightening, it makes me sad. I know there will be many more because for years and years, we have paid no attention, apart from giving them money, she added.

“It’ll be investigated. The concerned district admn is already taking action in this regard. Women & child development ministry is also looking into the matter. The children will be sent for medical examination. Truth will be brought out,” said ADG (law & order) on Deoria shelter home.
