All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MPs, MLAs and staunch supporters of the late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa including women shaved their heads in grief in memory of their beloved leader and also as a mark of respect.

Teary eyed supporters continue to throng the Marina beach next to MGR memorial in Chennai to pay their final respects on Wednesday where Jayalalithaa was laid to rest.

MP Senthilanathan who also got his head tonsured told Network 18, “Amma was not just a leader, she was like a family member, a mother to us. As a tradition of losing a family member we are all shaving our heads. She was great and very supportive.”

Another supporter of Jayalalithaa, Surlirajan cursed his fate for not being able to see the face of his beloved Amma and wondered whether anyone can match the stature and possess a good heart like Jayalalithaa.

“We are mourning the death of our Amma by tonsuring our heads here at Sabari Temple. She dedicated her life for us. We doubt whether we would get any other leader like her. We would have been happy had we seen Amma’s face when she was admitted in the hospital,” Surlirajan said.

A seven-day mourning was declared in Tamil Nadu to mourn the death of the beloved five-time Chief Minister. A three-day holiday has also been announced for educational institutions in the state.
