Sasikala Natarajan, a confidante and close aide of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and her family, may receive the ownership of late leader’s property worth ₹113.73 crore. As per a report in The Telegraph, sources said that Jayalalithaa had drawn up a will a couple of years ago that clearly states that the Poes Garden house will go to Sasikala.
Apart from that the Kodanad estate in the Nilgiris, Jaya Publications, Sasi Enterprises and the other companies in which the two friends were partners will be also possessed by the surviving partner. Besides, the Hyderabad farmland will be given to Vivek Jayaraman – son of Ilavarasi and Jayaraman (Sasikala’s brother), suggests the report.
AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa had assets worth ₹113.73 crore
As mentioned in the Jayalalithaa’s election affidavit filed in April 2016, the AIADMK chief had assets worth ₹113.73 crore. Out of which while movable assets are worth ₹41.63 crore immovable properties valued at ₹72.09 crore.
While the much-loved leader in TN had ₹41,000 cash in hand she had ₹2.04 crore as liabilities.
Spread over 24,000 square feet, Jayalalithaa’s residence in elite Poes Garden ‘Veda Nilayam’ is valued at ₹43.96 crore. Decades ago, in 1967, she, along with her mother, also bought the property for ₹1.32 lakh.
She possessed 14.50 acres of farm land in Jeedimetla village in Ranga Reddy district in Telangana. She also had 3.43 acres in Cheyyur Village in Kancheepuram village in Tamil Nadu. In 1968 and 1981, she brought another property in Telangana and Cheyyur respectively along with her mother Sandhya.
In motor vehicles, Jayalalithaa had two Toyoto Prado SUVs valued at ₹40 lakh. Moreover, she had a Tempo Traveller, a Tempo Trax, a Mahindra Jeep, an Ambassador car of 1980s, a Mahindra Bolero, a Swaraj Mazada Maxi, and a Contessa (1990 model). The vehicles together are worth ₹42,25,000.
About Sasikala
The 59-year-old Sasikala and the late minister come in contact in the 80s. Sasikala, who hailed from a humble background from Mannargudi in south Tamil Nadu, soon gained acceptance in the Veda Nilayam residence. Sasikala, who is known as ‘Chinnamma’ in her circles even had an influence in AIADMK at one point of time.
During Jayalalithaa’s three decades of political career, the bond between the two saw many ups and downs. She was also blamed for being close to AIADMK’s electoral defeats on some occasions. Both the ladies were accused in the infamous disproportionate assets case. They were convicted by a trial court in Bengaluru, but the Karnataka High Court later reversed the lower court’s order.
