117 modern madrasas in Uttarakhand: According to Uttarakhand Waqf Board chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, 117 modern madrasas in the state will be operated in the name of former president Abdul Kalam. At a program on Monday to commemorate World Minority Rights Day, Chief Minister Dhami made this statement to the audience.

The Uttarakhand Waqf Board has proposed to operate 117 modern madrasas throughout the state in the name of former president Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam beginning the following year, according to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami of Dehradun. On Monday, he delivered a speech at a program commemorating World Minority Rights Day.

The Uttarakhand government intended to convert state madrasas into centers of contemporary education by implementing novel learning methodologies in September of last year. Government officials refer to them as “modern madrasas” because they follow the NCERT curriculum and teach in English. Uttarakhand has garnered recent attention due to the enrollment of over 700 Hindu pupils in madrasas throughout the state.

Schemes to increase representation of minorities in competitive exams

According to Chief Minister Dhami, Uttarakhand has been the epicenter of spiritual and religious awakening. “The state government is diligently pursuing the improvement of each section.” “To encourage minority students and increase the representation of minorities in various competitive examinations, the Mukhyamantri Minority Promotion Scheme was initiated,” he continued.

Special grants for girls from minority community

Additionally, the state is allocating special grants to support the academic endeavors of deserving young female pupils hailing from minority community households. An allocation of Rs 18 crore has been sanctioned thus far under the Minority Development Fund, which the government established in response to the need for educational and economic development in minority areas. Additionally, preparations are underway to enforce a uniform civil code throughout the state.

What are these modern madrasas?

Before the establishment of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, 117 madrasas offered instruction solely in Arabic and theology as it pertained to Islamic studies. However, the government has decided to implement a “hybrid model” of education, which includes the inclusion of Sanskrit in the curriculum in addition to the NCERT syllabus.

Kids should follow the path of Dr Kalam

Shadab Shams, chairman of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, stated, “We have put forth a proposition to the government to alter the adverse perception of madrasas and associate them with Dr. Kalam’s ‘Rashtrawadi Vichardhara’ (nationalist ideology). Since the Arabic word for school is madrasa, we intend to transform it into a school-like structure. As per our prearranged strategies, English will serve as the medium of instruction, with a designated period dedicated to the teaching of the Quran by the NCERT syllabus.

“Students enrolled in madrasas will undoubtedly be able to pursue their ambitions of becoming physicians, engineers, and scientists, just as Dr. Kalam did,” he further stated.
