Nargis Fakhri and Sachiin Joshi starrer Amavas is all set to hit theaters on February 8. The horror-based movie recites the typical aged Bollywood horror story in which there is an old haveli with creaking doors, locked rooms, things that go thump in the night.
Amavas is directed by Bhushan Patel, known for making horror hits like Ragini MMS 2 and Alone. So we can have a transient expectation with the film to be the exception despite non-actors cast in the movie.
Sachin Joshi (who also produces) plays richie rich Karan Ajmera, who brings his girlfriend Ahaana (Fakhri) to his family’s neglected summerhouse. On Aahana’s insistence, he takes her there to spend their second anniversary together. None of the family has been to that cobwebbed house for eight years during which only a lone caretaker has been poking around its haunted interiors.
After staying in that ominous looking haven, the couple gets haunted by strange nightmares and spooky sightings. As Aahana tries to figure out what’s happening, she realises whatever is hounding them has links to a dark secret in Karan’s life.

Ali Sagar played the character named as Goti who is a butler, caretaker and lame attempt at comic relief rolled into one toothy character.
The first hour is a series of songs and late night’s visits by the ghost. The second half deals with the secrets behind the happenings in the mansion, new characters are introduced — a psychiatrist (Mona Singh), two friends from Karan’s hostel days (played by Vivan Bhatena and Navneet Kaur Dhillon) and a hapless matron.
The special effects in creating the spookiness are decent, though the ghost effects on Joshi’s face feel like he inhaled something stinky. Just when you thought Bollywood is finally progressing in horror with the likes of genre-bending Stree and Tumbbad, Amavas reminds you nothing has changed much.
