Reportedly there are early discussions being held by Amazon India for a potential buyout of the local unit of food order and delivery platform Uber Eats. They are possibly looking to explore a strategic alliance.

Amazon is keen on entering the food delivery business in India to include it in its list of services it offers in the country particularly through its prime membership plan, as per a source.

“People order almost daily from a Zomato or a Swiggy. These apps enjoy immense client stackability. Amazon believes this could be a great add-on to its membership plan,” a source told the news daily.

Amazon believes that the food delivery business can lead to more customers on its Prime app than shopping, fashion, electronics, and grocery.

If the addition of food delivery is made to the prime app then it will help add daily users to it as well as boost the number of transaction.

A report said that Uber Eats is meanwhile likely to consider the valuation of $300 million. Earlier, Swiggy was reportedly in talks with Uber Eats for acquisition but the two companies could not conclude a deal over the issue of valuation and other reasons.

From quite a time Uber Eats has faced still competition from rivals such as Swiggy, Zomato in India. While Swiggy makes it big in the grocery delivery space, Zomato relies on its Zomato gold membership to boosts its growth.
