AMU Vice Chancellor appoints student who recieved hand injury as Assistant professor

Taking a humanitarian view, Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor has appointed Mr. Mohd Tariq, who received severe hand injury on the night of December 15, as Assistant Professor on ad hoc basis in the Department of Chemistry.

Tariq who is a JRF and NET qualified Ph.D. scholar suffered a serious hand injury during violent incidents on December 15.

AMU’s official spokesperson informed that the appointment has been done with immediate effect in consultation with the Dean, Faculty of Science and the Chairman, Department of Chemistry.

For the uninitiated, the AMU students were protesting against the law that grants Indian Citizenship Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians and Jains who entered the country before 2015 after facing religious persecution in three neighboring countries. Muslims are excluded from this list.

“I do not wish to say anything beyond the fact that I have lost my hand,” Mohammad Tariq, a Ph.D. student, who is being treated at the trauma center told PTI.

Others alleged that the police had cracked down brutally on AMU students protesting peacefully against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
