Andhra Pradesh: Congress announces candidates for Lok Sabha and Assembly elections

The Congress party on Thursday released the list of its candidates for three Lok Sabha constituencies and 45 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh.

For Lok Sabha elections, the Congress has fielded Ramana Kumari Pedada from Visakhapatnam, J Lakshmi Narasimha Yadav from Nandyal and Narahrasetti Narasimha Rao from Vijayawada.

The Congress is going without any pre-poll alliances in the state after its alliance with TDP received a thrashing in the Telangana Assembly elections in December 2018.

There are 25 Lok Sabha and 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh. The state will undergo both Lok Sabha as well as Assembly polls on April 11.

The total number of Lok Sabha candidates declared by the Congress so far stands at 149.  Party has now declared its candidates for all the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha election on March 10 at a press conference at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. Election Commission of India had announced that the general elections will begin on April 11, with the last phase taking place on May 19, the counting of votes is slated to take place on May 23.

This time, more than 900 million people above the age of 18 are expected to cast their ballots at a million polling stations. Of the total electorate, 15 million will be in the age group of 18 to 19 years.
