Anti-CEC Protest: On Monday, the clash between the Opposition and the Election Commission of India grew sharper. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, along with other INDIA bloc figures, went to the Supreme Court. They did so over claims about flaws in the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of the voters list.
The Opposition group walked to the top court. They then submitted a joint petition. In it, they question the SIR steps. They also point to what they call problems, including voter deletions that they say were not proper. The filing comes while protests are increasing. Protesters are angry with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. They are also asking for stronger responsibility from the election body.
Some reports say the petition lists the Election Commission of India as a respondent. It also names CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The petition further mentions Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The petitioners want the court to act. They also want an outside probe into the claims tied to the revision of electoral rolls.
Rahul Gandhi, Opposition Leaders Approach Supreme Court Registry
Rahul Gandhi met with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge along with other INDIA bloc figures. They included Akhilesh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party, Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, Saugata Roy from the TMC, and Supriya Sule of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar).
This group later decided to go to the Supreme Court. The change came after CJI Surya Kant refused a meeting that Rahul Gandhi and Kharge had asked for. Reports say the CJI felt it would not be proper to talk about issues that are already before the court in an administrative setting.
What does the Opposition want?
The main issue is the SIR system. This is the method used to check and update electoral rolls. Opposition leaders say there were mistakes in voter deletions. They also worry that some people who should be on the list may have been removed.
The petition asks the Supreme Court to step in. It seeks a look at the alleged gaps. It also calls for key documents tied to the Election Commission’s choices. The petition further wants an outside probe.

Why the Anti-CEC Protest Has Escalated?
The new court action comes after days of protests led by Opposition groups. They have questioned how the Election Commission is working. They have also made claims about “vote chori”.
On Monday, INDIA bloc leaders and their supporters walked toward the Supreme Court in New Delhi. Police barriers were placed along the way. Officers stopped and controlled parts of the route. The march met some police interference.
The dispute has also picked up another thread. There are reports that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi objected to some calls tied to the SIR exercise. What those objections mean is now being argued along with doubts about how the poll body is running the process.
What’s Next In The Supreme Court?
Right now, the Supreme Court will look at the fresh petition. The Opposition wants specific relief through it. Media reports say the case may be heard with other matters linked to the SIR steps.
Still, filing a petition does not guarantee that the court will order an inquiry. It also does not mean the SIR exercise will be paused right away. Any move like that would only come if the court asks for it in its own order.
For the moment, the fight over the anti-CEC issue is at a key stage. The Opposition is pushing for a legal review. Meanwhile, the Election Commission is under growing political heat over the SIR process.
