The north-eastern state, Arunachal Pradesh is celebrating its 34th Statehood Day on February 20, 2021. During the British colonial era, it was known as the North-East Frontier Agency. It was a major part of Assam.

In 1972, Arunachal Pradesh became India’s Union Territory.

On the occasion, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has urged Chief Minister Pema Khandu and MPs from the state to initiate fresh dialogue with the Centre for amendment of the “defective” Statehood Act of 1987.

All about Arunachal Pradesh:

  • The capital of Arunachal Pradesh is Itanagar with a population of around 13, 82,611.
  • The region gained as a full-fledged State on February 20th, 1987. Earlier the state was named as the North-East Frontier Agency (NEFA) during the British Colonial Rule until 1972.
  • On January 20, 1972, it became a Union Territory and named Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Arunachal Pradesh is the home to several tribes, customs, traditions, and languages. The languages spoken among the various tribes are, Miji, Aka, Monpa, Wancho, Tagin, Hill Miri, Sherdukpen, Adi, Digaru-Mismi, Idu-Mishmi, Khamti, Miju-Mishmi, Apatani, Nocte, Tangsa and Nyishi.
  • The state got divided into sixteen districts for a proper administration and Itanagar which falls under the Papum Para district is the capital of the state.
  • The Brahmaputra and its tributaries are the major rivers of the state.
  • In the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, the Brahmaputra is known as Tsangpo and Dihang or Siang in Arunachal Pradesh where it flows towards east from Mansarovar Lake in Tibet before falling South through the Himalayas into north-central Arunachal Pradesh.
  • Most of the population of Arunachal Pradesh is mainly dependent on agriculture that is on jhum cultivation. People are also in other cash crops cultivation like potatoes and horticulture crops like apples, oranges, and pineapples.
  • Tourist places in Arunachal Pradesh are: Tawang, Dirang, Bomdila, Tipi, Itanagar Malinithan, Likabali, Pasighat, Along, Tezu, Miao, Roing, Daporijo Namdapha, Bhismaknagar, Parashurarn Kund and Khonsa.
