In a sudden turn of events just two days ahead of Lok Sabah poll results,  the sitting Khonsa MLA Tirong Aboh and six others were shot dead by unknown insurgents on Tuesday in the Bogapani area of Tirap district in Arunachal Pradesh.

As per the reports so far, militants belonging to the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) are suspected to be behind the attack.

Aboh’s personal security officer is in a critical condition.

Reaction upon the tragic incident, Meghayala Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed his condolences and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to take action against those behind the brutal attack.

Tirong Aboh was the sitting MLA from the Khonsa West Assembly seat and was seeking re-election in the ongoing state assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh on National People’s Party ticket.

The state went to polls simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections. Results for the Arunachal assembly elections will be announced along with the general election results on May 23.

This is a developing story. More details will be updates soon.
