Former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Prabhunath Singh along with two others were awarded life sentence by a court in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh on Tuesday. They have been convicted in link with a 22-year-old MLA Ashok Singh’s murder case.
Singh along with his brother Dinanath and former mukhiya Ritesh Singh were convicted on Thursday. While all the convicts were sent to jail, the court had said it will declare the quantum of sentence on May 23.
Significantly, Prabhunath Singh, the former MP from Maharajganj, is being considered close to RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
Ashok Singh was murdered in Patna in 1995 by unidentified men. He was with Janata Dal then. Singh had been targeted many times. On December 28, 1991, some men opened indiscriminate firing at him when he was visiting the Masrakh district council complex. At that time, Singh had managed to escape.
