Former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Prabhunath Singh along with two others, were convicted by a court in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh on Thursday. They have been convicted in the link with a 22-year-old MLA Ashok Singh’s murder case. All the convicts were sent to jail.
The court said it will declare the quantum of sentence on May 23. Along with Prabhunath, his brother Dinanath and former mukhiya Ritesh Singh were convicted. Significantly, Prabhunath Singh, the former MP from Maharajganj, is being considered close to RJD chief Lalu Prasad.
Ashok Singh was murdered in Patna in 1995 by unidentified men. He was with Janata Dal then. Singh had been targeted many times. On December 28, 1991, some men opened indiscriminate firing at him when he was visiting the Masrakh district council complex. At that time, Singh had managed to escape.
